The other day I got to ride along with an Isabella County corrections officer and two of the inmates to witness the dirty process of removing deer carcasses from the side of the road after the winter snow has melted away. The day was interesting with trying to stomach the smell of rooting deer and hearing the stories of the inmates involved. One inmate in particular, Jacob, had quite the interesting story. Jacob is a graduate from Western Michigan University with degrees in mathematics and computer science. After college Jacob started getting into various drugs and suddenly found himself in a situation he didn’t want to be in but didn’t know how to get out.
