I’m gettin’ hitched!!!

For the last “5 years” I have been seeing this girl and tonight we took one step closer to spending the rest of our lives together. The night was prompted by our 5 year anniversary. I brought Liz a bouquet of flowers to help celebrate the occasion before dinner when our plans suddenly became delayed because she said something I have never heard her say before, “I’m not hungry.” Hearing these words come out of her mouth was a sigh of relief because the ring that I was soon about to place on her finger was burning a hole in my pocket. I calmly suggested that we go to Borders and pick out a couples devotional like we have been meaning to do for some time now. As we arrived at the store there was a particular book in mind that I was in search for, The Love Dare. The book is a married couples daily devotional that “dares” the husband and wife to do special things for each other to keep their love/spiritual relationship alive and well. So Liz and I wandered over to the religion section and just my luck, the book is on the bottom shelf which gave me a reason to squat down and prepare myself to gain the courage to ask the love of my life to be my bride. We are both now squatting, turning the pages of this book, reading the dares and seeing what the book is all about, as if I didn’t already know. Liz says, “Looks good and fun.” I reply, “yeah too bad we’re not married otherwise we could get the book.” Liz laughs and stands back up and proceeds to look at devotionals. As the beat of my heart grows louder, I said to myself,” I better do this before Liz asks who turned the bass up on the coffeehouse music echoing through out the store.” I swallowed the spit in my mouth, took a deep and breath grabbed Liz’s hand to turn her around and I say, “I know how we can buy this book.” She looks at me as I am bending down on one knee and I say,” Liz…” she abruptly replies, “What are you doing, Danny…” (Liz at this point thinks I am joking around again about asking her to marry me like I have done many times before.) I calm her and say,”Liz I love you, I always have and I always will. You mean so much to be and I wouldn’t want to spend my life with anyone other than you, will you marry me?” I pull the ring out of my pocket, take the sapphire ring that I gave to her about 4 years ago off her finger and start to slide the new ring on when I realized, she hasn’t responded yet with a yes or no. “Well?” I ask, she replies, “YES!” I slide the ring on her finger and there we were, hugging, kissing and crying in the religion section at Borders Bookstore, losing sight of our surroundings, becoming lost in the moment.
