Open Space and City Opera House Wedding | Alex + Enrique

“Growing up, I never thought much about my wedding, except for two things: I wanted it to be in my hometown and I wanted to be married outdoors in the sun.” Both of these dreams came true for Alex as she and her now husband, Enrique, made their promises in the middle of the Open Space in beautiful downtown Traverse City.

Being involved in the theatre, Alex and Enrique jumped  at the idea of having their reception at the City Opera House. “…When we found out there was availability, we knew that would be a great combination for us as we are both theatrical. We could not have asked for a more perfect day.”

Alex and Enrique spent the morning together to try and cultivate a sense of normalcy before the big celebration. “Having a chance to kiss him before we both went to our respective bridal parties helped calm both of our nerves and focus on what was most important. Then we were able to have a productive and fun day without feeling nervous. Oh, and we cried constantly.”

Most of the happy couple’s tears came during their ceremony. “We did our vows in both English and Spanish, as Enrique’s first language is Spanish. I had practiced for weeks trying to nail down my Spanish (let’s just say languages aren’t my strong suit), so getting through that was a massive accomplishment. Hearing it in both of our first languages was wonderfully overwhelming.”

Their day was full of surprises that Alex and Enrique will have as wonderful memories for the rest of their lives. During the reception, Enrique began a speech that turned into a song for his bride. “I had a feeling he was going to do something to surprise me, but I had no idea it would be to that caliber. Seeing him jump up on stage and sing to me with Miriam Pico was a major highlight.”

During that same time, the two were overwhelmed by the love that was being poured out to them. “We both got choked up when the Father of the Bride openly welcomed Enrique into the family. Hearing those words, no matter how many times we had heard them before, really solidified his acceptance. During both the Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches, we were just happy messes. Having those people we love most honor us took us both completely off-guard. The amount of love we felt during our wedding was intangible and we will never forget it.”

As the two best described it, their wedding day was truly romantic, theatrical, and unforgettable.

Congratulations Alex and Enrique! May God bless your marriage.
