“We met our freshman year of college in the fall of 2011. We lived across the hall from each other on the third floor of Thorpe Hall at Central Michigan University. We quickly became friends and started spending a lot of time with each other. After being friends for about 1.5 months we both realized there was something more between us.”
Ashley and Elliot knew from the beginning that they wanted the other to be in their life. “When I first met Elliot I was instantly drawn to his sense of humor. Not only could he make me laugh, but he could make everyone else in the room laugh as well, his humor and happiness were contagious. Elliot really knows how to make you feel good, it’s hard to not be happy when he’s around…he knew exactly who he was, he embraced it, and to this day that is something I truly admire him for. Not only is Elliot funny, honest, and happy, he is also one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met.”
And for Elliot, the love between him and Ashley seems to never end, refreshing each day. “It feels like every day there is something new that makes me love her, which makes me excited to wake up next to her every day for the rest of my life. Within the first two years of us dating I took Ashley to my family reunion in Milwaukee. As I watched Ashley interact with my family throughout the day I couldn’t help but smile. Being with my family and having such an amazing time and seeing the way Ashley fit right in, like she had been in the family all along, made me really realize that I wanted our relationship to last forever!”
When it was time to ask Ashley to be his wife, the two were standing “at the top of the world” in Suttons Bay, Elliots hometown. “On Friday, June 29, 2018 we were visiting Suttons Bay and Elliot mentioned that he’d like to go to the top of the world. As we were driving up to the spot, with Elliot’s parents, we noticed that the property was sold (it had been for sale for a while). I immediately looked at Elliot and said, “No! This is our spot. This is the first place you took me to in Suttons Bay.” For a moment, we were both kind of taken back, because this place has had so much meaning to our relationship over the past 7 years. (I had no idea that in about 1 minute it was going to have even more of a meaning to us than it already did). We get out of the car and Elliot asks his mom to take a photo of the two of us. We both face Annette and smile for a few photos. On this particular day it was extremely windy, so I turned my body away from Elliot to try to fix my hair and get it out of my face. When I turned around, Elliot was down on one knee and he asked me to marry him. I was completely shocked, and we were both in tears, it’s a moment we both will remember forever.”
Ashley and Elliot have traveled to six different countries together and plan on adding to that number for the rest of their lives. Congratulations on your engagement, let the celebration continue!
