Matt and Katie met each other through their best friends while they were attending Michigan State University. Matt’s curiosity was sparked when he spotted Katie up in a tree at a tailgate they were both at. While they both had a few of the same classes, and somewhat similar majors, Katie would call him asking for some answers to homework problems. Their friendship grew and soon became something more after graduation.

Katie was completely caught off guard after Matt surprised her with a long weekend getaway in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Matt grew up vacationing in Kiawah with his family and had always wanted to share it with Katie. The third morning they were there, they snuck down to the beach early in the morning to watch the sun rise quietly before anyone else awoke on the island. “Matt got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, with a gorgeous engagement ring in hand. It was the easiest question I have ever answered. It was intimate, private and so ‘us’. We couldn’t wait to tell all of our closest family and friends. We celebrated that evening and continued the celebration, with our family, when we got home. I wish I could relive the morning of July 2, 2016 all over again” Katie remembered.

Life without each other was out of the question. As Katie found herself dreaming of their family, future, and all of life’s milestones she realized that Matt is her best friend and she never wanted to let him go. “I knew that I needed him as my teammate. I feel like I’m at home with him. It just feels right. I admire everything that Matt is.”

After Matt realized their relationship was beyond dating, he knew she was meant for him and wants Katie by his side to go through life with. “I found myself thinking about our future together and our future family. I knew she was my best friend.”

There are many things they enjoy doing, but spending their time together usually involves an adventure of some sort! Whether it’s scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas, or heading up to the park for a day with their two pups, Allie Rae and Cabo. Their love for the outdoors takes them many places; their favorite is spending time of the water. Whatever they’re doing, they’re always having a great time together.
