Backyard Wedding | Sam + Joe

“Leland is and always has been a special place for my family. I’ve been coming up here to my grandparents’ house my whole life, so when we got engaged we knew it would be in Leland. My grandpa taught me how to golf at the Leland Country Club, and the view from the deck is so gorgeous, perfect for a ceremony. Our original reception venue was the Leland Lodge, however COVID-19 had other plans. When we downsized our guest list from 150 to 20, we moved everything to my family’s home on Lake Leelanau. Although it wasn’t our original plan, it was so much more meaningful to celebrate our marriage at the home where I grew up and where we will continue to share memories together as a family!”

Sam + Joe’s big day started off with a bang… in the form of torrential rain and flash flooding. But nothing- not a global pandemic or a little rain- was going to get in the way of Sam + Joe celebrating their wedding with the family and friends. “After everything we’d been through during the months leading up to the wedding, we were both just so excited and ready to be married. We talked afterwards about how surprisingly relaxed and calm we were on the morning of the wedding (even as a monsoon plowed through Leland). Even though we were missing the majority of our wedding party, we actually both enjoyed the quiet morning with just our siblings. We really felt like we had accomplished so much by getting to that moment and it felt amazing to celebrate that with our families.”

And celebrate they did. From a beautiful ceremony overlooking Lake Leelanau to a laugh filled boat ride over to their reception, Sam + Joe’s wedding was 100% them. It was beautiful, fun, and full of meaning.
