The Homestead Resort Wedding | Ciera + Jonathan

“Simple. Real. Everlasting”

For Ciera + Jonathan, those three words best describe their perfect wedding day. From the venue to the fine details, to the wedding party, family and guests, everything went as planned; well, eventually!

Picking the venue was an easy decision. “I would always hear stories of treading up the sleeping bear sand dunes, the hours spent on a pontoon boat on Glen Lake, and going to the totem shop. When we decided to find a venue, we wanted somewhere that had great meaning, and for Ciera, The Homestead encompassed everything she loves about northern Michigan. As for me, I would’ve been happy marrying her anywhere but I am happy to now be a part of the memories in Glen Arbor.”

Special moments were scattered throughout the day, for Ciera,“every moment of that day stuck out for me and will always be cherished. For Jonathan, “The first look was definitely my happiest moment. I’ll always remember seeing her walk down the boardwalk in her dress, she was absolutely stunning. My heart thumped so hard in my chest, it startled me.” No day would have been complete without their “best pup” Dustin. He helped Ciera get ready and was definitely enjoying being part of the wedding party.

The most emotional moment of the day for Ciera was during the first look. “Jonathan and I exchanged gifts and I truly became speechless after receiving his gift…probably because I instantly broke out into tears. He had his mom, a truly talented artist, create a breathtaking watercolor painting of each of our three boys…including our beloved boy Dexter who had tragically passed away. Jonathan looked at me and said “for your future office so our boys our always with you”. I am a very sentimental person and this by far is the most meaningful, incredible, 100% perfect gift I have ever received. It was made by my mother in law, had our three incredibly cherished boys, and will hang in my future office as a veterinarian – my dream come true. In one gift, Jonathan had captured the essence of our wedding, our relationship, our little family.”

Of course, things don’t always go exactly as planned but it’s funny how a single moment can bring you back to center, “Up until the day of the wedding, I had no anxiety. The day of, I remember being anxious but not really knowing what I was nervous about but it was more from excitement that anything else. I was excited to finally be able to celebrate us. The moment I saw Ciera, I felt I could finally breathe. Everything came back into perspective and I felt calm for the first time that day.” Although Jonathan was feeling the nerves, Ciera had a different sort of day. “I was incredibly calm and relaxed on the day of our wedding. People were actually surprised at how calm I was from my family to the wedding party to my stylist. I remember thinking to myself, “am I not supposed to be calm? Am I supposed to be stressed out or panicking?” No. I really wasn’t because the day was finally here….the day that finally would grant me the honor of becoming Jonathan’s wife and the privilege of finally having him as my husband. I realized I was calm because I was more than ready for the day to begin, to see him, to marry him, to celebrate him, and to spend the rest of my life with him.”

And celebrate they did! Ciera and her Dad surprised everyone with a show stopper, “Lastly, was the Father Daughter dance…that’s a moment I will always hold dear to my heart. It was my dad’s idea, after he had watched a couple of FD dances on YouTube (he’s obsessed with YouTube haha). We decided to go with a movie theme since we have always been big movie goers. After our mash-up was complete (amazing shout to Mr. Music), we came up with our dance and snuck practices around my family (even while UpNorth). It was incredibly exciting to see everyone’s amazing reaction to it and I was so proud of my dad. He had a great time the entire time and everyone was so surprised by it, they are still complimenting us today.”

Ciera + Jonathan, may God bless your marriage and you continue to celebrate each other for many years to come!
