Ellen + Billy’s Downtown Petoskey engagement story is a beautiful journey of friendship turning into forever. Their love blossomed over summers spent by the lake, and years later, they got to say “I do” in the very place that brought them together.

“We met through mutual friends during our senior year of high school,” Ellen shared. “Summers were filled with beach volleyball, bonfires, and swimming — all as friends until 2014 when our story truly began.”

Billy’s move to Northern Michigan University brought them closer. “He messaged me on Facebook about transferring, and although I wasn’t looking for a relationship then, the following summer we started dating,” Ellen recalled.

The adventure continued out west, where the two lived separately for a time before reuniting in the Tahoe area. “Those years solidified everything,” Billy said. “Living together, traveling back to Michigan for holidays, and being best friends made us realize we were meant for each other.”

Their engagement on Christmas Eve 2021 was full of magic and laughter. “Billy hid the ring in his ski coat pocket during a day at Nubs ski hill,” Ellen remembered. “At the perfect moment on the Southern Comfort run, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was overwhelmed with tears and joy. We celebrated afterward with friends and family at Nubs Pub — a day we’ll never forget.”
